Here we are, the last week of the regular 2020 season. Its been one hell of a season to say the least. COVID-19 wrecked all the plans that the season had. No homestands for most of the season. Technical issues on broadcast as teams and talent tried to grapple with all the issues that come with doing all of this stuff remotely. Power outages, internet issues, bad mics, random feed freezes, all that fun stuff. Shoutout to all the production crew behind the scene who kept the show going.
We are in the final stretch of the regular season which means that the last few games for teams here will determine their overall season standings and also seeding for the season playoffs. This week had a few upsets and a meta in flux due to the hero pool restrictions in effect. Let’s get into it.
Another fairly quiet week of Overwatch League as the qualifier matches for the Countdown Cup continue. We’ve had some shenanigans in the APAC region matches thanks to our friends from Chengdu. Let’s get into that along with a bit of league news.
Overwatch League returns after a week break from the extremely exciting Summer Showdown tournament. In what seems to be a pattern, the week back from a tournament is usually pretty quiet as far as good matches go.
This week starts off another cycle of qualifier matches for the final regular season tournament of the 2020 season, the Countdown Cup.
Since there are no Overwatch League matches for two weeks I am going to link to this retrospective post about the 2019 season. This is on my primary blog because it was written and published before this blog existed.
